Your Wellness Visits Schedule

When should you bring in a child for a wellness visit? Your Garnet Health pediatrician will discuss the recommended frequency of visits based on your child’s health status and history. While your child may need care more often for a diagnosed illness or other concerns, the American Academy of Pediatrics has created these scheduling guidelines for pediatric well visits:

  • First-week visit (3 to 5 days old)
  • 1 month old
  • 2 months old
  • 4 months old
  • 6 months old
  • 9 months old
  • 12 months old
  • 15 months old
  • 18 months old
  • 2 years old
  • 2 ½ years old
  • Annual visits, assuming no other health concerns, from age 3 to 21

What Happens During Your Child’s Appointment

When you enter Garnet Health’s hospitals, doctor’s offices and pediatric center, you’ll be greeted with friendly faces from our team. They will assist you in filling out any necessary paperwork as you wait to see a provider.

A nurse will guide you to an examination room, where he or she will measure your child’s weight and height. The nurse also will check your child’s blood pressure, vision and hearing. Either the nurse or doctor also will listen to your youngster’s heart and lungs, and will evaluate your child’s motor skills and behavior.

Your Garnet Health pediatrician then will ask you questions about your child’s eating, sleeping and physical activities, followed by offering guidance or advice. You’re welcome to discuss your thoughts regarding your child’s health or development. Prepare for your visit by writing down these questions in advance. That will ensure a helpful, comprehensive discussion.

Before your visit concludes, your child’s doctor will update any immunizations required to protect your child from preventable disease. Your pediatrician also will order additional testing if needed.
