Dr. Henry J. Issenberg is Director of Echocardiography at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at New York Medical College. He joined the faculty in 2005 after his previous position as Director of Diagnostic Services at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. Prior to Montefiore, he was Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Doernbecher Children's Hospital-Oregon Health Science University in Portland.
After graduating from medical school at Emory University in 1974, he completed his pediatric residency at Jacobi Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by a pediatric cardiology fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital-Harvard University, under the supervision of Alexander S. Nadas and Aldo Castaneda.
Dr. Issenberg administers a very active Echocardiography Lab with inpatient and outpatient services at all clinical sites. His staff includes 6 full-time technicians specifically trained and credentialed in pediatric echo, which includes fetal, transesophageal and 3-dimensional studies using the most advanced equipment.
As Pediatric Chair of the Medical Council of Operation SMILE, Dr.Issenberg has responsibility for all credentialing, training and practice protocols utilized at all mission sites in over 30 countries around the world. In addition, he is a consultant for Project HOPE, Rotary-Gift of Life and the Rachel Cooper Foundation. He has volunteered his expertise for numerous medical missions and/or projects in China, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Hungary, Ukraine, Morocco, Kenya, Guyana, Venezuela, Honduras, Haiti, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Qatar, and Nepal.
Dr. Issenberg has taught and lectured extensively in various aspects of pediatric cardiology and perioperative care. He has been honored as a "Top Doctor" in New York Metro Area each year in the Castle Connolly Guide since its inception in 1994.
