Catskill Regional Medical Center recently celebrated the official opening of a newly-renovated patio adjacent to the Adult Day Health Care Program.

The nearly $30,000 patio renovation project took two years and was made possible by hospital staff and community in-kind donations, volunteer work and the manual labor and support of local businesses and Boy Scouts Troop 273, of Scotchtown, New York.

“One year ago this area couldn’t be used and now it’s beautiful,” said Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Schiller. “Austin Hrynda, of the Boy Scouts, wrote our grants and with passion and motherly love, he and his mom, Julia, helped us get across the finish line. Boy Scouts Troop 273, you have a lot to be proud of.”

The patio renovation was a Boy Scouts Troop 273 service project. They cleared tables, benches and planters from the old patio and helped with fundraising by holding bake sales.

The project included the replacement of plants and planters, patio demolition and the installation of new pavers, new furniture and electrical work.

“We would like to thank everyone who had a hand in making this project possible. God bless the staff and volunteers who worked long and hard to get the patio done,” said Adult Day Health Care patient Maria Mercado. “We are enjoying all that the patio has to offer us. This project has brought beauty to our days here.”

The Adult Day Health Care Program provides medical and rehabilitative care, along with improving self-esteem through physical, mental and social activities. It covers a broad spectrum of needs and services providing families with quality care so those in our community can live at home for as long as possible.
