Dr. Abourbih and Dr.GalarneauAt Garnet Health, we’re proud to share an important milestone in men’s healthcare: Our urology team has completed 200 aquablation therapy procedures. We were among the first health systems in the Hudson Valley to offer this advanced treatment, and reaching this milestone reflects both the growing need in our community and the experience of our dedicated care teams.

If you or someone you love has been dealing with symptoms of an enlarged prostate, you’re not alone. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common, noncancerous condition that can cause frequent urination, difficulty starting or stopping urine flow, and a weak urine stream. Over time, these symptoms can disrupt daily routines and affect quality of life.

Aquablation therapy is helping change how BPH is treated. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that uses a precise, heat-free water-jet, guided by real-time imaging and robotic technology, to remove the prostate tissue causing symptoms. Because the treatment is so targeted, it helps protect the areas that control bladder function and sexual health.

That precision leads to outcomes that matter. Clinical studies show a 90% sexual function preservation rate, addressing one of the most common concerns men have about prostate procedures. Aquablation is also often described as a “one-and-done” treatment, offering most patients long-lasting symptom relief without the need for repeat procedures.

Aquablation Therapy: What to Know

Quick facts for patients and families:

  • Minimally invasive treatment for enlarged prostate (BPH).
  • Uses heat-free water-jet technology, guided by real-time imaging.
  • 90% sexual function preservation rate in clinical studies.
  • Low risk of incontinence.
  • Often a “one-and-done” procedure with long-lasting symptom relief.
  • Performed by specially trained urologists.

We also believe that access to care should come with clear, easy-to-understand information. That’s why Garnet Health Doctors urologists Samuel Abourbih, MD, and Gerard Galarneau, MD, will host a free Aquablation Therapy Awareness Event on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Middletown Thrall Library (11-19 Depot Street, Middletown). In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held on Thursday, Jan. 29, at the same time and location.

During this community education session, our physicians will explain what BPH is, why early diagnosis matters, how aquablation compares with other treatment options, and who may benefit from this therapy. The event is open to the public and designed to empower men with practical, reliable information about managing BPH.

We’re proud to bring innovative, patient-focused care to the Hudson Valley.
