Reiki Therapy Services

Reiki Therapy is part of Garnet Health Medical Center’s Complementary Therapies Program which is available during a patient’s hospital stay if resources are available. Reiki is a non-invasive energy healing technique which focuses on the whole being health of mind, body and spirit.  Reiki sessions can promote deep relaxation, and may help reduce stress, anxiety, depression and fatigue to help patients recover more comfortably.

Reiki is conducted in a quiet environment where the patient may fall into a relaxed, meditative state. The Reiki Practitioner places their hands lightly or slightly above various positions of the body, typically corresponding to the body’s energy centers. Universal life force energy is then transferred through these energy centers and helps restore balance to the body, promoting healing and wellness. The patient is an active participant in the session.

Benefits of Reiki Therapy in a Hospital Setting

Patients in the hospital setting experience many stressors that can weaken the function of the immune system and interfere with healing. Reiki Therapy focuses on restoring the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual capacities of each individual while enhancing the healing process.

Reiki Therapy may help with:

  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Deep relaxation
  • Increasing comfort
  • Alleviating pain
  • Improving blood circulation
  • Accelerating recovery
  • Reducing side effects from surgery and long-term illness
  • Improved emotional and spiritual wellbeing

Drawing from universal life force energy, Reiki is a natural approach to healing and wellness for the whole being. Reiki is a complementary healing therapy that, when combined with traditional therapy as prescribed by a physician, promotes relaxation and comfort. Reiki is not a cure. It is a gentle technique that releases and restores energy flow, allowing the body’s own natural healing ability to work.

Garnet Health Medical Center’s Reiki program was made possible through generous funding from the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research and Awareness.

How Does Reiki Therapy Work?

Conducted in a quiet environment, the patient will sit or lie comfortably, fully clothed while a certified Reiki Practitioner conducts a session. The Reiki Practitioner will place his/her hands lightly on or just above the patient’s body, typically corresponding to their major energy centers, also known as chakras, and subtle energy centers, known as meridians. The major energy centers vibrate and spin at different frequencies ranging from the top of the head/crown and along the spinal column to the base/tailbone. Other places of light contact may be along the arms, legs and feet. When receiving a session from an accredited Garnet Health Medical Center Reiki Practitioner, these energy centers return to a more balanced state. Some patients report feeling a deep sense of comfort, rest, radiant warmth and a reduction in pain.

Why Should I Consider Reiki Therapy?

Reiki has been used worldwide for health and healing since the late 1800s. Reiki has gained popularity more recently in the United States for its effectiveness in healthcare practices due to its ability to relieve tension, reduce stress and improve sleep while encouraging the body to heal itself naturally.

Is Reiki Therapy Safe?

Reiki is very safe. It is a non-invasive, relaxing technique with little to no physical contact.

Is Reiki Therapy Available for All Ages?

How Will I Feel After a Reiki Therapy Session?

Each person responds to Reiki individually. Feelings can range from refreshed and relaxed to comfortable and stress free. There is growing scientific data that supports the effectiveness of Reiki and some healthcare professionals find it to be useful in helping reduce stress and anxiety which, in turn, allows the body to heal more quickly.
