GHMC's Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center Restores Luz Rosa's Quality of Life
July 1, 2025Michael was admitted to the hospital with a severe foot infection that caused his toenail to fall off, resulting in the doctors amputating his entire toe. “At the time, I didn’t know yet that I had diabetes,” he explains. “I was scared, overwhelmed, and worried I was going to lose my whole foot.”
Following his hospital stay, Michael was referred to the Garnet Health Medical Center Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center, where he received expert and compassionate care from Dr. Del Rosso and the entire multidisciplinary team.
His treatment plan included advanced therapies such as skin substitutes and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a medical treatment prescribed by a doctor to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal. Alongside these treatments, the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center offers comprehensive wound care services, including diagnostic testing, specialized dressings, infection control, nutritional evaluation, and more.
During this vulnerable time, Dr. Del Rosso made sure Michael was well informed and supported, taking the time to explain his treatment and address any questions he had about the healing process.
“I truly believe that the wound center and Dr. Del Rosso saved my foot–and my life,” said Michael. “Because of the infection, I had to stop working. I couldn’t drive or take care of myself like I used to, and I lost a lot of my independence. It was devastating.”
But thanks to the care he received, as Michael says, his foot was saved. “I’ve healed, I’m back at work, and I’m living my life again.”
Michael says he will forever be grateful to Dr. Del Rosso and the center staff for not only saving his foot but giving him back his freedom, livelihood, and peace of mind.
